I have the honour to acknowledge with thanks the

receipt of Your Excellency's confidential despatch of the 6th. November on the subject of the Canton Note Currency.

The Minister of Finance recently informed the re- -presentatives of the six groups, referring to the loen of 85,000,000 alleged to have been contracted by the Tutu of Canton with the American syndicate, that there were $30,000,000 worth of notes in circulation with nothing to meet them, and that the Tutu was faced with a serious financial crisis unless relief were forth-

-coming.
